... when did we see thee hungry

Matthew 25:37  Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink?

This passage has several levels of truth to it.  Obviously at one level Jesus is telling us that we should be about feeding the hungry and ministering to the needy.
ON another level, however, he is drawing a contrast between those who met his needs and those who did not.  The one's who met his needs also asked when did they do that.  There is a clear character of humility there. No boasting or pride, but rather a sincere sense of what is needed.  The others did not recognize the needs and therefore are incapable of filling it, yet they think they are still entitled to God's grace.  Both groups are surprised, but the one's who are surprised that they did anything special were the ones who were saved.
Bottom line is that the doing of God's will is not something that can be faked.  Also it should come natural to the degree that we don't know we are doing anything beyond what is expected.  Because it is expected.

Father, help me by your Holt Spirit to see the needs and be willing to fill them without thought of what it means to me, but because it is what is expected of me.

Amen
