I desire mercy, and not sacrifice

Matthew 12:7  And if you had known what this means, `I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.

This is one of the hardest things to defend ourselves against.  It is really a test of our sincerity.  If we truly love God then we will be merciful as he is merciful.  But all too often it is more about our pride and our fear than it is about our love.
We want to be right.  We want to be saved.  God says he want us to show mercy rather than sacrifice. How often do we argue about what is "right" in the church, even to the point of division?  How often do we battle for power over political differences rather than honestly look for real solutions?
Mercy?  Sometimes I am not sure that we really know what that means.  And that is what Jesus says, if we know what that means then we wouldn't condemn the guiltless.

Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to always seek to be merciful, and Lord I seek your mercy everyday. I need you grace and your mercy to get through each day of life, even for life.

Amen
