Acts 2:38 Peter (said) to them, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the holy Spirit.
This is not the message you hear very often, but this is what Peter, and Jesus said to do. Repent and be baptized. A lot of preaching today is focused on group dynamics, serving, volunteering, making a difference. But you don't see that here. Jesus says what value is it if you gain the world but loose your soul. Repent, means that we have to change from the inside. Our character, our values, our way of life, our ability to love others must change. He doesn't say give more money, volunteer more, or join a small group. These are fine things to do, but what value are they if we don't change who we are?
Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to change who I am. Help me to be willing to be the person that Jesus calls me to be.
Amen
