| First: | Acts 2:14,22-33 |
| Resp: | Psalm 16:1-2,5,7-11 |
| Second: | 1 Peter 1:17-21 |
| Gospel: | Luke 24:13-35 |
Luke 24:31 With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight.
This should point out something very important about how we come to know who Jesus is. It was in the breaking of the bread that they recognized him. But not only in the breaking of the bread. Jesus had walked with them and opened to them all the scriptures. So when Jesus, who was not the host of the house, blessed the bread they saw the scriptures fulfilled right before them.
The liturgical form of worship is based on the Word and on the Sacrament. We need to have both. Both reason and miracle. To see the miracles of God we have to expect and understand to some degree. But we also need Gods grace and miracle.
Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to see that it is not my ability to reason alone, nor am I exempt of the responsibility to think and know. Bless me and give me the means to come to know you more fully.
Amen
