Acts 5:39 But if it comes from God, you will not be able to destroy them; you may even find yourselves fighting against God." They were persuaded by him.
Be careful and consider what to do with these men. Those were wise words from Gamaliel. If it is of human origin it will amount to nothing, but if it is from God you can't stop it and you may find yourself fighting against God.
What makes it tough is we don't always know whether it is of God or it is of human origin. Sometimes hindsight can reveal things, but even then we aren't always sure. So what are we to do?
I think we must always give the benefit of the doubt and trust God. You never know if it is from God unless of course there is a clear denial of God and/or His Word involved. But even if someone were to tell a lie, or someone was not a person of noble character, who knows what God is going to do. Take for example Rahab, or the woman at the well. Who could know what God would do for, with, and through them. I also think that many of us still harbor the notion that they can go against God and win. We can't. So we need to be careful about what we do with what God brings into our lives.
Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to give the benefit of the doubt, to trust you and to act and live according to your words. Help me to really know that I can't fight against you and win, but rather if I know that you love me and are with me, no one can stand against me.
Amen
