Be Satisfied

Mass Readings: April 9

First: Acts 8:1-8
Resp: Psalm 66:1-7
Gospel: John 6:35-40

John 6:35 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.

When persecution comes many of us are likely to scatter, and historically as in the first reading many have. But there are those few that will remain like the Apostles did.
Often it doesn't even have to be persecution that causes us to scatter.  It can be a desire to have it our own way, or a fear of following what we can't see.  But Jesus says that if we truly come to him we will be satisfied.  We will not need to look anywhere else.  We will not hunger or thirst for another kind of righteousness, or another kind of mercy.  We will find it in him and we will need no other.
This then is a sign of a true follower.  Are we satisfied or are we still looking.  In the U2 song it says "I still haven't found what I am looking for".  Even though the song has a type of a Christian flavor to it and it has even been sung in some churches, it lacks the basic understanding of the Christian faith.  That is to be satisfied in Christ.

Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to be filled with the knowledge of your grace and your mercy.  Help me not to be wrestles, always looking for a better truth, but to rest in you, to trust in you, and to live with the knowledge that your will is that we shall be raised to eternal life on the last day.

Amen
