Hide in the dark

Mass Readings: April 2

First: Acts 5:17-26
Resp: Psalm 34:2-9
Gospel: John 3:16-21

John 3:20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed.

The members of the council were so afraid of their influence and reputation being dismantled that they couldn't even see the miracle and the light that was right in front of them.
How much energy do we spend trying to hide the truth from others, from God, and even from ourselves? If we truly desire the best of life and we truly love justice and mercy, we must be willing to live in the light, that is to be willing always to reveal and know the truth.  What value is there in defending that which is false?  It is imaginary, and not real. It can't live, only the truth can live.
It is scary to face the truth because we don't fully believe in God's grace and His power and love.  If we did we would never fear the truth.

Father, help me by our Holy Spirit to always seek to know and live the truth, especially when it concerns my actions.  Help me to trust in your love and your mercy and grace.

Amen
