2 Peter 3:12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be kindled and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire!
At first glance this passage may seem as though it is talking about the end of creation. But it is interesting that the word for elements can mean rudiments or principles, the foundations of the faith of the people. That could mean the Jewish religion as they knew it in their day, and in fact they were melted in 70 AD. with the destruction of the Temple.
Now does that mean that there will not be a larger even more catastrophic destruction in the future? Who knows, but we do know this one happened and fulfills the Scriptures.
The take a way here though is that God creates a new kingdom, a new "heaven and earth" and new religious principles or foundational ordinances. We are new creatures in Christ if we are willing to let the old things go. But if we stubbornly hold on to them we will not be able to enter into the new kingdom.
Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to let go of the things that hold me back from experiencing your love and all that you want for me. Help me to enter into your kingdom boldly and humbly realizing that it is only by your grace and love and the sacrifice of Jesus my Lord that I can enter.
