Can we give it up?

First Reading: 2 Kings 11:1-4, 9-18, 20
Psalm: Psalm 132:11-14, 17-18
Gospel: Matthew 6:19-23


Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

This is a pretty simple truth, but one that is hard to command. We live in a world where everything is controlled by money. It is hard to not live in a material world. But, the question is can we give it up at any time? This is why disciplines that include fasting and deprivation of pleasures and conveniences are of great value. They test us and train us to be able to live without if we have to.

Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to be able to value your and your grace more than the pleasures of this world. Help me to be able to give it up when I am called to.
