John 7:51 "Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he does?"
Nicodemus was the one who went to Jesus to ask him about what he was doing, so his words were consistent with his actions. How often do we pass judgment on people without giving them a fair hearing. The people were divided over their own assumptions, but did anybody other than Nicodemus think about actually asking Jesus?
When we have different "opinions" about the facts it might serve us well to actually investigate and see what is going on. Our ignorance simply gives space for our sinful agendas to grow and take shape. The truth can often be like water on a fire. But we can keep the fire of hate and injustice going by ignoring the water of truth that is right in front of us.
Father, help me to always seek truth and not to readily find fault. Help me, by your Holy Spirit, to appreciate that we are all part of the fallen human race and I am not better than others. Help me celebrate truth rather than hide it.
Amen
