For the Glory of God

Mass Readings: March 9

First: Ezekiel 37:12-14
Resp: Psalm 130:1-8
Second: Romans 8:8-11
Gospel: John 11:1-45

John 11:4  But when Jesus heard it he said, "This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it."

People often wonder why a loving God would allow people to suffer and die.  The answer is we don't have to die.  Jesus says that this "illness" does not lead to death.  Rather it is so that the Son of God will be glorified through it. God is glorified because we can't raise ourselves from death.  That is something that only God can do.  We glorify God when we trust him and allow him to help us in life, when we realize that we are not God.  When we face suffering and death knowing that our only hope is in the Son of God we then glorify him.

Father, help me by your Holy Spirit, to trust you and to give you the glory, realizing that you alone have to power of life and death, suffering and peace.

Amen
