Between a Rock and a hard place

Mass Readings: March 10

First: Daniel 13:1-9,15-17,19-30,33-62
Resp: Psalm 23:1-6
Gospel: John 8:1-11

Daniel 13:22 "I am completely trapped," Susanna groaned. "If I yield, it will be my death; if I refuse, I cannot escape your power.

When people in power, respected people, elders of the community or church, turn on you it can seem like a desperate situation. It can be like walking through the valley of the shadow of death. The key for Susanna was that she didn't compromise her integrity. She trusted God. When we are between a rock and a hard place, we must not crumble. Sometimes in life there is no good choice, there is no perfect answer for us to choose. Sometimes in life we are falsely accused. In those times, as in all times, we must act in faith. In those times we must realize that only God can rescue us from our peril. We must remember that Jesus is the Rock of our Salvation. Can we trust him?

Father, life doesn't always seem fair. When I feel that I am being treated unjustly give me the faith to remember that I deserve nothing, and that your son Jesus was falsely accused and put to death because of my sins. Help me, by your Holy Spirit, to trust in your mercy and grace, so that whether in any present danger I am spared or not, my hope will always be in Christ.

Amen
