Easy to break, Hard to fix

Mass Readings: March 14

First: Jeremiah 20:10-13
Resp: Psalm 18:2-7
Gospel: John 10:31-42

Jeremiah 20:10 Yes, I hear the whisperings of many: "Terror on every side! Denounce! let us denounce him!" All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine. "Perhaps he will be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him."

How quickly we are as a nation, and even as a people to be ready to tear others down. Sometimes it appears that we are extremely insecure. We are afraid of anybody that has success or poses a "new" idea. We are way more willing to tear down than we are to build up. Building up takes three things: Hard work, Faith, and help from somewhere else.
Hard work; we would rather tear down because it is easy to find fault, hard to forgive.
Faith; we have to believe in what we are doing. We have become so cynical that we find it hard to believe in anything or anyone any more.
Help; we don't want it. If we get help then we feel that we owe something to someone. We don't want to be a debtor to anybody especially God, only to the credit card companies. But God gives it to whomever He pleases.

Father, by your Holy Spirit help me to be willing to work, believe, and be thankful for your help, your mercy and grace, so that I can be a useful citizen in your Kingdom.

Amen
