Sirach 2:1 My son, if you come forward to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for temptation.
Even in the church we tend to celebrate greatness in worldly terms. We are amazed at how big some ministries have become, and we think that God is doing a mighty work in this one or that one. There are many stories in the Bible, however, where God doesn't amass a great number to do his will, but puts a person out there where he is helpless and it looks like the only way he can win is with God's help.
We must fight the temptation to measure things in human terms. We must remain faithful and trust in the Lord and not in numbers or budgets or great works of men.
Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to trust in you and not in human strength and will, but in your mercy and grace and give me the hope and perseverance to stay on the path.
