| First Reading: Psalm: Gospel: | Genesis 3:1-8 Psalm 32:1-2, 5-7 Mark 7:31-37 |
Knowledge is power, so they say. To know someone or something gives you a certain amount of influence and control over that person or thing. It gives you the ability to judge or discern.
The knowledge of good and evil isn't simply an awareness of good and evil, it is the ability, or presumed ability, to judge what is good and what is evil. This is what people try to do all the time.
In today's culture, as in all cultures historically, people have attempted to make themselves wiser than God. This comes from both the non-religious and religious communities.
True wisdom comes when we realize how little we know and how little power we really have. We al to often get puffed up over very little successes.
Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to always know that you are God and I am not. Help me to seek your wisdom and not my own.
Amen
