even the dogs

First Reading:
Psalm:
Gospel:
Genesis 2:18-25
Psalm 128:1-5
Mark 7:24-30

Mark 7:28 But she answered him, "Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs."

Jesus honors the humility of the woman's saying. She doesn't argue with him about her rights, she simply states the facts about her position. She understands who she is and who Jesus is.
In our modern culture it is commonplace to demand our rights. We think that we are entitled to something that someone else has. This sounds like breaking one of the commandments to me.
That doesn't mean that we shouldn't ask God for his mercy and that we shouldn't be persistent. She did and was. But she didn't presume some right that the God of the universe had not given her.

Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to know my place and to not be afraid to come to you with humility seeking your mercy and grace.

Amen
