your Father knows

First Reading: Psalm: Gospel: 2 Corinthians 11:1-11 Psalm 111:1-4, 7-8 Matthew 6:7-15

Matthew 6:8  Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

 

Today, with the communal popcorn style prayer, it is very easy to fall into the trap of trying to make good prayers and say all the right words.  Jesus gave us words to say so that we would not have to do that.  What can we add to the Lord’s Prayer?  The father already knows what we need.  The reason we say a prayer that is given to us is so that there is no pride or self serving in it.  It is a clear act of worship and reverence to say the prayer, the very words that Jesus told us to say.

Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to be humble in prayer, trusting that you know what I need and not to use it as a means for my own pride.
