Genesis 2:3  So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all his work which he had done in creation.

God blessed the seventh day.  What do we do with that?  Play football?  Go to sporting events and other social activities?  Do we work?  Do we shop?  How do we recognize the seventh day that God himself blessed.  Maybe we just don’t stop to think about that.  God blessed the seventh day.  In fact one of the ten commandments is to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. What does it mean to keep it holy?

To keep something holy is to set it apart and keep it pure of other distractions.  Our culture has become almost totally secular.  Yes, even the church does not do a good job at this.  We complain if service is too long because we have places to go, people to see, things to do.  We have too many distractions to get to.  How can we spend time and energy keeping the Sabbath holy?

Father, help me by your Holy Spirit to keep the Sabbath holy.  Help me to not put all the distractions of life before you and remembrance of what you have done.

Amen
